Art and Life with Wyn Vogel: A Journey into Creativity, Seasons Living, and the Kimberley’s
Meet Wyn Vogel, a talented artist and the leader of the Australian Watercolour Muster. Wyn, now a resident of Seasons Living for the past seven months, shares her experiences, inspirations, and the connection between her art and life at Seasons.
A Glimpse into Wyn’s World
Wyn’s artistic journey began in the scenic Blue Mountains, where she grew up with her Mum who was very creative with her life. From an early age, Wyn had a paintbrush in hand, capturing the landscapes of her hometown.
Today, her preferred medium is watercolour, but she also uses a mix of oils, creating a vibrant mix of abstract art in her studio.
Life at Seasons Living
Wyn and her husband Norman made the move to Seasons Living at the end of March, looking for a supportive environment that would allow them both to thrive.
Seasons Living’s support has given Wyn the freedom to pursue her artistic passion while making sure Norman receives the care he needs. This support has also enabled Wyn to travel, such as her recent trip to Italy, knowing that Norman has the care he needs. With Seasons thoughtful design, which has provided Norman the freedom to move independently without the use of mobility aids.
“The support Seasons offers gives me freedom. I had given myself to looking after Norman and I have been encouraged by various people to get the help we need so I am able to look after myself as well and follow my passion. As a result of that I have been able to lead the Australian Watercolour Muster that we started in 2018, we travel to Italy each alternate year, I was able to attend this year knowing Norman was in safe hands.”
The balance between care and independence at Seasons Living has been the welcoming change they required for Wyn to continue to pursue her passion of art and teaching others.
The Australian Watercolour Muster: Remote and Rural program
Wyn’s passion for watercolour led her to begin the Australian Watercolour Muster, a venture that brings people together to explore the medium. This project takes Wyn and a group of inspiring artists to various locations, with the upcoming journey to the beautiful Kimberly’s. As the lead tutor, Wyn draws inspiration from the landscape during the week-long retreat.
Fish Lane Studio
In 2017, Wyn opened Fish Lane Studios, “we were washed out in Cyclone Debbie, so we moved to Edmonstone Street where we have been for 4 years now. It has been an amazing journey.”
“We use the studio as a mix of studio and exhibition space, moving in when we hold exhibitions and moving again when we use the space for workshops, so it’s an ongoing transition process. The studio is a great space with lots of natural light and open louvre windows to really let the outside in”.
What Drives Wyn to Create?
For Wyn, the motivation to create is inbuilt, “you get an idea and think, I’d like to try that. If I look at the sky or sunsets, I think that would be interesting to try.”
“My latest piece “night garden” comes from a lady’s garden in Taringa. Inspiration can come from anywhere and I will paint in my head for 3 months before I start a piece.”
Looking Ahead
As Wyn continues her journey at Seasons Living and adventures around the world, she values finding balance. Wyn shows how art and community can create a fulfilling and enriching life.
