Story by Rhylea Thompson

Home is more than a place to live. Home serves as a safe haven and sanctuary, where your identity is reflected and cherished memories are created every day, where you can truly be yourself.

Whether it was your childhood home with the big steep driveway where you scraped your knee several times, or the home you raised your family – the one that made you dread the sound of rain because you knew it was only a matter of time before the bathroom flooded.

When you eventually upgraded to a larger house, you planted a lemon tree in the backyard and your first grandchild spilt a cup of orange juice on the loungeroom floor.

The outline of the stain never disappeared no matter how hard you scrubbed it, but you didn’t mind because it was always a reminder of special moments.

That’s the magic of a home and that’s why the roles of the Seasons Home Care Team are more than just a job.

Preparing meals and assisting residents with errands is important, but at Seasons, our commitment extends far beyond these perimeters.

Our Care Team takes the time to get to know each and every resident and learn their stories, preferences and routines, because everyone deserves to be seen, heard and feel valued.

During her three years as a Seasons Personal Care Worker, Claire has cared for Guiness World Record holders, retired military leaders and everyday Aussies.

While our residents come from different walks of life, one thing has remained the same for Claire – her dedication to helping others by delivering person-centred care.

From administering medication and assisting with house duties to transporting residents to appointments, Claire considers all aspects of her role important, but believes her person-centred
approach to care and building connections is pivotal.

Growing up, Claire was often lending a helping hand at the bowls clubs and RSLs run by her parents, where she formed strong bonds with older generations.

“Our residents chose to call Seasons home so we want to ensure they feel comfortable, supported and fulfilled,” Claire said.

“Many of our residents have such lovely life stories… it’s always a pleasure to get to know them and hear about every part of their life.

“Moving somewhere new can be daunting so I always make sure to ask our residents the important questions – can you tell me about yourself? Are you settling in ok? Is there anything else you need?”

As Claire discovered our Care team make a heartfelt impact on our residents in some unexpected ways too.

When a resident lost her cat – a pet her husband had gifted her before he passed away, Claire managed to find and relocate the cat with its owner.

“When I saw (the resident) for the first time in a while since that day, she ran straight up to me, gave me the biggest hug and had tears in her eyes,” Claire said.

“She was so grateful to have her cat home… it’s moments like this that I will always treasure.”
