Whether they taught us how to ride our first bikes, change a tire or treat others with respect, the dads and father figures in our lives leave an everlasting impact and influence the people we become.
While the appreciation for everything our dads do never ends, the first Sunday of September is dedicated to the special men in our lives every year for Father’s Day.
Seasons resident Ken said his dad was his best mate.
To celebrate this special tradition, we sat down with some of our residents who shared the monumental impact their dads made on their lives.
Seasons resident Ken was named after his dad and the pair always shared a very close bond.
“My dad was a one off,” he said.
“In 1943, he decided to be a hands-on dad – in that particular age, this didn’t happen often.
“(We were) as close as two people could be… he was my best mate.”
Helen recalled the heartfelt moment her music-loving dad walked her down the aisle on her wedding day.
Meanwhile, Helen recalls her dad, who was born Henry but was known to everyone as Harry, loving music, particularly Judith Durham, who was the lead singer of Aussie folk group The Seekers.
“(My father) was very proud when he was able to walk me down the aisle and I met my husband and we were married,” she said.
“He was a proud dad then.”
Carla said she will be forever appreciative of everything her dear dad taught her.
Grateful for all the pearls of wisdom her dad Jan passed down to her, Carla said she always tried to live life in a way which would make her dad proud.
“Thank you for everything you taught me,” she said.
On behalf of the residents and staff of Seasons, we wish you all a happy Father’s Day and hope you celebrate with the people you love.
